What changed, release by release.
Muxvox Desktop updates itself from 0.3 onward; the phone apps update through the App Store and Google Play.
Desktop 0.5.2 — 1 September 2026
- A phone you never accepted no longer uses up a place in the meeting. If a phone asked to join and nobody clicked Allow, Muxvox kept its place reserved for the rest of the session — so later phones were turned away with “that computer already has as many phones connected as it allows”, sometimes with nothing connected at all. Places are now given back the moment a phone goes away, whatever the reason.
- “Check the room” explains itself. It used to tell you to choose a room speaker even when you had one selected. The real reason is usually that the speaker was picked after the meeting started, so it now says exactly that — and Settings makes clear that device choices apply from the next Start.
Desktop 0.5.1 — 1 September 2026
- Phones stop kicking each other out of the meeting. A fix in 0.4 that stopped one phone appearing several times in the list went too far: phones installed from the App Store or Google Play look identical to each other, so the desktop mistook a second phone for the first one reconnecting and dropped it. If you could only ever get one phone into a meeting, this was why. Update the Mac and they all connect — nothing to change on the phones.
Desktop 0.5 — 1 September 2026
- Dutch notes need nothing from the Terminal. The Whisper engine is now built into Muxvox, so the only thing you fetch is the language model itself, from a button in Settings. Transcribing also got faster: the model is loaded once per meeting instead of once per phone, and you now see a real progress bar — with a Cancel button — instead of a spinner.
- Your licence applies the moment you enter it. A Team key entered while Muxvox was already running left the app on the free plan's limits — two phones, and no rooms, room speaker, guest mode or remembered approvals — until you quit and reopened it. Everything you paid for now takes effect immediately, even in the middle of a meeting.
- A meeting that ended badly is no longer lost. If Muxvox was force-quit or the Mac lost power mid-meeting, the recording was left in a state nothing could read. Recordings are now kept readable as they are written, and Muxvox can recover the older ones too.
Desktop 0.4 — 23 August 2026
- Meeting notes, in beta (Team). Because every phone is its own microphone, Muxvox knows who said what — tag each phone with a name and the transcript uses it. When you stop the meeting, decisions and action items are summarized and everything lands as one Markdown file in Documents › Muxvox (or a folder you pick). All of it happens on your Mac: no audio or text ever leaves it.
- You are in charge of the recording. Notes are off, on, paused or resumed per meeting with one click, with a clear pulsing indicator and a clock that counts only recorded time. Nothing is captured while notes are off — and a meeting where notes never ran leaves no files at all. During the beta the indicator lives on the Mac; phone-screen indicators come before notes leave beta.
- Languages. English, German, French, Spanish,
Italian and Portuguese are transcribed by macOS itself on
macOS 26, with summaries by Apple Intelligence. Dutch,
auto-detection and ~99 other languages use the optional Whisper
engine — during the beta that path needs one extra free install
(
brew install whisper-cpp); a coming update removes the step. Without Apple Intelligence you still get the full transcript. - Fixes. A joining phone no longer appears several times in the list; pressing Enter while naming a phone no longer ends the meeting; and finished notes announce themselves properly instead of hiding behind other windows.
Desktop 0.3 — 23 August 2026
- Plans are here. Personal stays free forever: two phones per session and all core audio. Team adds up to 16 phones, rooms & room speaker, Check the room, remembered approvals and guest mode for $14 per Mac per month or $140 per year — and there's a free 3-day trial inside the app, no card needed. Phones are free on every plan.
- Muxvox now updates itself. New versions install automatically — this is the last one you download by hand.
- A full room is handled gracefully. When a third phone tries to join on Personal, it gets a clear message — and the two connected phones carry on without a blip. Upgrading lets the next phone straight in, even mid-meeting.
- Approvals are truly per phone now. Approving one phone no longer quietly covered others. Phones you approved before will ask once more — after that, everything is remembered correctly.
Desktop 0.2 — 22 August 2026
- First public release, for Apple silicon and Intel Macs.
- The Muxvox audio devices install with one click from inside the app — nothing else to download.
- Rooms and room-speaker routing, the "Check the room" sound check, remembered approvals, and automatic mixing.
iPhone & Android 0.2 — 22 August 2026
- First releases on the App Store and Google Play.
- Your phone becomes the room's microphone and earpiece — audio stays on your own Wi-Fi, encrypted, and never passes through our servers.
- Android: an echo-cancellation switch for using the loudspeaker without headphones. (On iPhone it's built in and always on.)
